Following an extensive evaluation selection process of providers, PacketSentry was selected for the AHA endorsement based on its ability to enhance access controls and audit trails of legacy applications and thereby improve hospitals’ compliance with some requirements of HIPAA/HITECH.

The American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced it has exclusively endorsed PacketSentry™, the User Activity Management (UAM) solution from PacketMotion™. AHA Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of AHA, awards the AHA endorsement to products and services that help hospitals and health care organizations achieve operational excellence. Following an extensive evaluation selection process of providers, PacketSentry was selected for the endorsement based on its ability to enhance access controls and audit trails of legacy applications and thereby improve hospitals’ compliance with some requirements of HIPAA/HITECH.

The delivery of health care is transitioning to an electronic environment that is fueling the growth of Health Information Technology (HIT). This growth drives demand for a solution that provides both appropriate access controls and audit records for HIT and Personal Health Information (PHI). To address these needs, PacketSentry delivers a broad range of health IT access controls and audit functionalities, on a single easy to use platform, which drives down operational costs for hospitals across traditional, virtual and cloud environments.

PacketSentry provides healthcare IT personnel with granular visibility into what users are doing and accessing on the network, including a wide range of healthcare applications and data stores. In addition it monitors and records user access and enforces access polices for databases, including repositories where PHI is stored, that can assist hospitals in meeting certain HIPAA/HITECH compliance obligations. It identifies, audits and limits access to PHI resources, enhancing protections for sensitive patient information.

“While the increased ease of access to pertinent patient information that an HIT system provides is critical for the delivery of high quality and safe patient care, it also is important to ensure that the system protects the confidentiality and security of patient information and is compliant with governmental regulations in these areas,” said Anthony Burke, president and CEO, AHA Solutions, Inc. “PacketMotion’s User Activity Management offers a comprehensive and cost effective solution that is easily integrated into existing systems, including multiple legacy systems and information databases.

“The AHA has been serving hospitals in the United States for more than 100 years, and we’re honored to receive such a prestigious endorsement from them,” said Paul Smith, PacketMotion Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We look forward to teaming up with the AHA in 2011, to assist more hospitals solve their key data privacy and security issues.”
