Jaffe PR, the leading law firm public reputation agency, is pleased to announce that business development and marketing expert Kimberly Alford Rice and marketing strategist Matt Smyers have joined its national PR team as Strategic Alliance partners.

Both will work to enhance and expand Jaffe PR’s clients’ business development and marketing efforts and support the agency’s continued growth. Smyers is based in Richmond, VA, and Alford Rice is based in southern New Jersey.

Nationally recognized as a business development and marketing expert, Alford Rice is an accomplished leader in helping lawyers and law firms generate profitable new business through proven business development methodologies and training/coaching programs. Throughout her nearly 25 years of practice, she has assisted in building, advising and supporting in-house marketing, business development and training efforts at a number of law firms, ranging from solos to large AmLaw 200 firms. She works effectively with all levels of an organization to bring an institutional awareness and understanding of strategic business development, marketing and client service principles to enhance the efficacy of a firm’s operations, increase clients’ satisfaction and generate greater revenue.

For more than 18 years, Alford Rice served on and for senior management teams with three corporate professional service firms in the metro Philadelphia area, leading strategic marketing programs in developing and executing firm-wide marketing plans, including individual marketing planning, associate and practice development training programs, firm brand strategy/execution, and other strategic initiatives.

Among her professional activities, Alford Rice serves as editor-in-chief of the American Lawyer Media (ALM) monthly Marketing the Law Firm publication, serves on the editorial board of ALM’s Law Firm Partnership and Benefit Report, is a member of the international Legal Marketing Association (LMA), and serves on the board of directors of the LMA’s Metro Philadelphia chapter. She is also a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and its Law Practice Management Section, as well as the Delaware Valley Law Firm Marketing Group. In addition, Rice is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association (Law Practice Management Section) and former chair of Camden County Bar Association’s Law Practice Management Committee.

A lawyer turned marketing strategist, Smyers applies his experience as a lawyer and business owner to helping law firms grow through strategic, well-executed marketing plans and initiatives. His strength lies in his ability to help firms not only clearly define their goals and objectives, but develop and execute plans that achieve those goals and objectives.

Before entering the legal marketing profession, Smyers spent eight years in the medical malpractice insurance industry, where he was responsible for managing litigation throughout the mid-Atlantic for the largest medical malpractice insurance company in the United States. In 2008, he founded RedShift, an online media planning and buying agency, through which he worked with national brands such as Network Solutions, Bruegger’s Bagels and Pocono Raceway, among others. Along the way, Smyers began working with some of the law firms he knew well from his time in the medical malpractice insurance industry. In 2011, he turned his attention exclusively to marketing law firms by starting his own legal marketing company, the Smyers Group.

Smyers is a board member of the Virginias Chapter of the LMA and the founding member of the Legal Partners Group, a collection of service providers to the legal industry whose purpose is to provide turnkey solutions to law firms in transition. He is also a board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond. Smyers earned his BS in Political Science from Juniata College and his law degree from Widener University School of Law, Harrisburg, PA. He is based in Richmond, VA.
