Eating simple and sweet is getting a little easier for Harps Food Stores’ customers in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Following a successful six-month market test in Arkansas, skoopz, a 100 percent, all-natural sugar substitute, is extending its availability across the 63-unit grocery store chain. skoopz made its debut at Harps Food Stores in February.
While the skoopz formula is proprietary, the sweetener is a combination of all-natural ingredients, including:
- Erythritol (naturally occurring; found in melons and grapes)
- Malitol (naturally occurring; contains 90 percent of the sweetness of sugar)
- Maltodextrin (derivative of corn starch; gives natural “feel” of sugar)
- Xylitol (naturally occurring in many fruits and vegetables; possesses same sweetness and texture as sugar)
- Stevia (derived from herb in the Chrysanthemum family; extracts from Stevia leaves are incredibly sweet)
"skoopz falls into a unique category in the sugar aisle. We think it is the best tasting 100% all-natural sugar substitute available,'' said Roger Collins, CEO of Harps Food Stores. ''It is affordably priced for the quality delivered, and that is important to our customers who are looking for the best value for their grocery dollar."
''We want to provide consumers with a healthy alternative to chemically-based sweeteners, and are thrilled that Harps recognized the quality and value of our product,'' said James Highsmith, CEO of skoopz. ''We appreciate the chance they took, and the opportunities they’ve provided in helping us grow the company. We also want to thank the Harps Food Stores customers in Arkansas. Their purchases and repurchases of skoopz confirmed to us how much consumers like this product.”
The rollout of skoopz throughout the Harps chain is expected to be completed by the end of September. Skoopz is also available online at http://www.skoopznatural.com .
