Fairfield, CT (PRWEB) November 20, 2009
AmericanTowns.com , where residents of every town in America can find and share rich local information about their communities, today announced continued progress in several key metrics as of October, 2009.
AmericanTowns.com now includes 2700 local blogs and receives 50,000 announcements and event postings from community leaders each month. The AmericanTowns' sites collectively feature over 100,000 news stories each day, and over 500,000 locally-related tweets.
The new traffic records follow AmericanTowns' launch of its enhanced community platform along with a series of new features:
Expansion of its local Community Calendar to include local Farmers Markets and more arts & entertainment events.
TownTwitter featured for all communities in a Twitter-based section called "Heard on the Street", so people can find out the local buzz.
Photo Gallery added for all communities, both on the homepage, and as a feature available for local groups.
Free blogging tool, which includes free promotion of locally-focused blogs on AmericanTowns homepage, and gives community organizations an easy way to blog.
To accommodate these features, the Company launched a redesign of the home page in August 2009 and is rolling out re-designed interior pages in Q4. The Company will also launch its new Facebook application in Q4, and continues to provide local governments, on request, with a free Community-wide Calendar and a directory of local community organizations, reducing municipal costs.
"Our surveys, focus groups, and site usage confirmed the areas of greatest interest to local residents," explained Ted Buerger, Co-Founder and Chairman of American Towns. "And users have told us that they want local information organized in one place, where they can also add their voice in a pro-community environment," he added.
