Utilizing a new validation process never before applied to healthcare competency exams, hospitals and healthcare staffing firms receive access to exam content linked directly to specific job functions and requirements. NurseTesting.com provides an extensive library of exams which follows standards set forth by The Joint Commission (a national healthcare standards organization). The new content validation process takes the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures (1978) and applies them to the development of these assessments.

The two phase development process starts with an in-depth Job Analysis where Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) provide a series of ratings and linkages for the key job/duties/tasks and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities healthcare professionals need to possess on the first day of the job. Upon completion of the job analysis, the SMEs develop a test plan and begin the item-writing phase for each assessment. During both phases, a significant amount of statistical data is collected and analyzed, such as inter-rater reliabilities and individual item Angoff ratings, yielding a final recommendation for items to include on assessments and the initial unmodified Angoff Cutoff Score for each assessment.

Parallel forms are then constructed measuring comparable content and producing scores eligible for identical interpretation. All questions are reviewed by the SME’s to decide whether test items measure factors including, but not limited to, being correct, fair to all groups of people, measuring a knowledge, skill or ability necessary on the first day of the job, etc. Questions with an average Angoff rating of 90% or above are excluded, due to the high probability of applicants selecting the correct answer and thus not contributing significantly to the validity and reliability of the exam(s). Remaining items with similar average Angoff scores are distributed equally into Form A and Form B, so as to create equality in both forms.

About James Ostmann, Sr RN, MBA - Amistaff Healthcare Technology's clinical team is lead by James Ostmann, Sr RN, MBA. Ostmann brings over 20 years of healthcare experience to the Amistaff organization. Ostmann began his healthcare career at the age of 16 in the public sector as a Firefighter/EMT, achieving his Paramedic status at age 18 and served for 15yrs. Ostmann worked as an RN in a Level II ER/Shock Trauma Center as well as in environments such as Cardiac Catheterization Lab and ICU.
