His thought leadership in analytics melds well with our experience...together we expect to bring even stronger services to the BI marketplace"

SAP strategy firm, GROM Associates Inc., announced that analytics expert Karthik Palanisamy has joined the GROM team as Managing Director of Analytics, leading its existing practice. The move coincides with GROM’s initiatives to amplify its current support offerings, responding to heightened client demand for its solutions for analytics, business intelligence, and data management.

Mr. Palanisamy recently led the Enterprise Decision Support Group at the Schwan Food Company, where he established the business intelligence vision for the $2.5 billion company. He subsequently implemented SAP’s in-memory HANA Solution (including BW on HANA) as a primary component of their analytics strategy. The specialist brings a decade of BI-focused project management to bear in contributing to GROM’s current analytics support offering.

An SAP Partner since 1994 and a business intelligence solutions provider since 1999, GROM rolled out the global data warehouse for a major consumer packaged goods company in 2010, providing overall project management throughout the implementation. GROM Associates Inc. has a 13 year history of providing analytics solutions to Fortune 500 companies, with a dedicated focus in the consumer packaged goods and life sciences verticals.

“We’re happy to welcome Karthik Palanisamy to the GROM team. We feel his thought leadership in analytics melds well with our experience in this area. Together, we expect to bring even stronger services to the BI marketplace,” said Senior Vice President, Michael Nusser.

Mr. Palanisamy’s appointment at GROM occurs as SAP continues to push its HANA solution to market as the next movement in SAP architecture. The in-memory-computing tool enhances reporting speed and increases the accuracy of analytic tools by reporting against the entire dataset. HANA has been touted as the prerequisite for new predictive analytics functionality, which theoretically offers a leap forward compared with today’s reporting architecture.

Despite the hype, many SAP customers have avoided plunging into new technology without first seeing the return on investment. This point has not been lost on GROM, which offers strategic assessments to gauge a corporation’s smartest response to new analytics technology.

“We don’t see the long-term value in force feeding applications to our partners. GROM is interested in listening, helping our clients map highly individualized paths to success,” said Karthik Palanisamy.

According to GROM, this path may or may not include investing in HANA tomorrow, depending on where a company rests on GROM’s maturity model for analytics. Recommendations may emphasize optimizing current-state architectural performance for those whose costs will outweigh projected gains from in-memory solutions. They will certainly extend beyond HANA to account for data quality.
