Architectural Resource, LLC of Ann Arbor was honored at the national Remodeling Show 2008 Qualified Remodeler Master Design Awards, receiving design awards in seven different categories making them the single most recognized firm at this year's competition. The awards included two first place awards; one for a striking contemporary addition in the "Room Additions less than $100K" category, and one for an extensive traditionally styled interior remodel in the "Room Remodel" category. They were also presented with four second place awards in each of the following categories: "Whole House Remodel $200K - $500K", "Whole House Remodel under $200K", "Kitchen Remodel under $50K", and in the "Residential Specialty" category for a contemporary sculptural fireplace. Additionally they were pleased to receive a third place award in the "Exterior Facelift" category for a classically styled front portico. All projects were located in Michigan. The firm was also presented with a JANUS award for their "Whole House Remodel $200K - $500K" being recognized at both the Southern Building Show's Chrysalis Design Awards and the Master Design Awards program.

Now in their 30th year, the Master Design Awards are the premier design award program for residential remodelers and designers. This program is distinguished from other awards programs by the strict peer-to-peer nature of the awards. Only active remodelers and designers are invited to review the entries. This year's judges were handpicked and recruited from all over the United States to give a wide variety of views and opinions on the projects. After having been recognized at all five previous Qualified Remodeler MDA programs, Architectural Resource is very pleased to again be honored at this prestigious forum.

The first place winning room addition was a hearth/media room added to a contemporary home in Dexter. The homeowners were quite proud of their existing, architecturally striking, home and wanted the new addition to seamlessly blend with the old. Soaring, angular glazed gables, innovative skylight arrays, and a stunning mixed material fireplace were some of the prominent features of the project. The fireplace itself was also recognized with a silver award in the Residential Specialty category. Paul Hickman Objects and Environments contributed as a consultant. Mark Dennis Builder constructed the project.

The other first place project was a radical transformation of a "McMansion" styled, soulless interior entry foyer, living room, and connecting balcony. The clients' desires to add architectural interest and human scale to the unappealing, over-scaled spaces were achieved with classical elements and engaging traditional detailing. Most noteworthy was the sweeping entry foyer stairway and the colonnade introduced on the connecting balcony. The project was constructed by Christian Tennant Custom Homes and is located in Ann Arbor.

"We were humbled to be so broadly recognized for our work on a national stage. It is exciting to be bringing good news back to Michigan" said Michael Klement, founder of Architectural Resource, LLC said.
