“Acknowledging that with love, dignity, compassion, humor and knowing you have the right to question ‘what is’ will help you heal and get through the cancer disease process.”

Experienced registered nurse and author Ann Wax provides an alternative approach to cancer treatment in the new book “Op-Ed on Cancer” (published by Balboa Press).

“The traditional approach to cancer is that the patient must view cancer as the enemy and engage in a war to vanquish that enemy,” Wax says. “I believe that this approach is incorrect and invariably leads to pain, self-doubt and depression.”

What Wax suggests instead is the importance of first finding calm and inner peace to promote healing. She shares more than 35 years of experience working in oncology facilities and the stories of cancer patients she encountered over the years to support her position, strategies and techniques for fighting cancer presented in her book.

“Op-Ed on Cancer” guides patients, family members and friends in dealing with many difficult topics that may not be at the forefront of the discussion between oncologists and patients. It reminds patients to be their own advocates when it comes to any treatment plan and identifies the healing mechanisms available to all cancer patients – mechanisms found within each person’s immune system.

“You don’t have to be a ‘warrior’ to heal from the cancer disease process,” Wax says. “Acknowledging that with love, dignity, compassion, humor and knowing you have the right to question ‘what is’ will help you heal and get through the cancer disease process.”
