The American Diabetes Association has a new Bronze-level sponsor for this year’s Tour de Cure bicycle race: Anthem College in Maryland Heights, Missouri, which will be providing a variety of support services for this year’s riders.

“We are volunteering to set up tents along the route where our Medical Assistant and Massage Therapy students can use the skills they are learning in school to support Tour de Cure bikers and other volunteers,” says Campus President Heidi Wind. “Students from our other programs will help as well to set up the food stand, staff it, take it down, and clean up afterword.”

“We have also set a goal to raise $2500 to support the Tour de Cure,” Wind adds. The college will host fundraising events through May to reach its goal. The 16-mile race will be held Saturday, June 2 along Great River Road and starts at Raging River WaterPark.

Anthem College chose the American Diabetes Association event to support through a student poll where more than 100 students recognized that volunteer service is needed for our campus community connection. It is the only college officially supporting the race.

Students at Anthem College-Maryland Heights routinely volunteer at community events. A sample of recent events includes the following:

  •     Providing massage therapy services to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition volunteers who helped rebuild seven houses in Joplin destroyed by last year’s tornado. The event was featured on the series finale January 13.
  •     Working with Anthem College Alumni in a holiday food drive to support the O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry in St. Charles. Students also raised enough money to purchase a $50 Wal-Mart gift card and a food basket for a fellow student struggling with finances.
  •     Providing dental assisting services to the Give Kids a Smile free dental clinic.

In addition to the Massage Therapy and Medical Assistant programs, Anthem College also offers programs that prepare students to enter careers as Dental Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians, and Surgical Technologists, who assist surgical teams in operating rooms.
