Richard A. Clark, RPhT, CPhT, a June 2009 Pharmacy Technician graduate from Anthem College-Orlando, was named Technician of the Year for 2011 and 2012 by the Florida Pharmacy Association (FPA). This is the first time that an Anthem College (formerly High-Tech Institute) graduate has received this honor.

“Richard was always a ‘Lead Technician’ during his academic time at Anthem,” says Joy Brastrom, Anthem College Dean of Education. “He set the bar high, achieved much success, then moved the bar even higher for our school’s Pharmacy Technician program and students.”

Clark, who was his class Valedictorian as well, was immediately offered a job upon completing his Externship with Cystic Fibrosis and Freedom Pharmacy in Orlando. Asked if he had taken the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam, Clark scheduled an appointment for the following Tuesday, rather than wait another month. “He decided that ready or not, this was it!” Brastrom says. By the time he graduated, he had already gained his national certification.

Clark was among Anthem College’s first PT students to volunteer with the annual African American Men’s Health Summit that provides prostate and other health screenings to as many as 4,000 African American men in Florida. He served as a Delegate with the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FSHP) House of Delegates for two years representing the Technician Division, and served on the FPA`s Professional Affairs Council for one year.

After more than two years with Cystic Fibrosis and Freedom Pharmacy, Clark is now a Supervising Technician with One Source Pharmacy, also in Orlando. He continues to provide leadership training to Anthem College Pharmacy Technician externs and others training in the field.
