Milpitas, CA (Vocus) September 16, 2008
Aperto® Networks, builder of the world’s most scalable carrier-grade and cost-effective WiMAX base stations and subscriber units, announced today that Brian Deutsch has been named as the company’s new President and CEO.
“We are very excited to have someone with Brian’s record of achievement join Aperto,” said Randall Meals, Managing Partner, Quicksilver Ventures. “WiMAX is fulfilling its promise to serve the rapidly expanding worldwide demand for wireless broadband access. At the same time, Aperto is well positioned to leverage its recent wins in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the U.S. Aperto’s board and its investors are confident that the combination of Brian’s technical background and experience in growing successful companies is the perfect complement to Aperto’s technology and its industry-leading line of PacketMAX base stations and subscriber units.”
Brian brings over 25 years of experience in telecommunications to Aperto. Before joining the company, Brian was co-founder and CEO of Wavtrace, a broadband millimeter-wave point-to-multipoint wireless equipment manufacturer that was a pioneer in the design and deployment of TDD systems for LMDS point-to-multipoint systems. Most recently, he was Vice President, Wireless Services, at BSQUARE Corporation.
Previous to Wavtrace, Brian was CEO of American Public Communications, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of innovative public telephony products and services for the Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs). As CEO, Brian led the company out of bankruptcy and grew sales year-over-year until it was purchased in a private sale.
In 1993, Brian was voted as a finalist and runner-up for the Inc. Magazine/Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Turnaround category. Previously, Brian spent six years with Motorola, Inc. in the Portable Products Division. His many roles there included leading engineering for paging and two-way products and managing staff and senior field applications for the OEM Microelectronics Sector. Brian has also worked for the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) at Kennedy Space Center in the Launch Processing Systems group.
Brian has been awarded five U.S. patents and received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami in 1981.
Aperto’s PacketMAX family of products delivers the critical elements required to extend wireless broadband services to a wide range of users—ranging from governments, large enterprises and public-sector organizations to multi-tenet buildings and residences—using a single, standards-based platform. PacketMAX also supports the widest range of licensed and licensed-exempt frequencies in the world, including the 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 5 GHz bands.
