In this economy when your job may be gone tomorrow I think the iPhone app market is an exciting market to enter and if you take advantage of websites like rentacoder.com and elance.com you can find someone to do the job for you for just a couple hundred dollars. I'm a total non-techie, but with a Dummies book, an outsourced coder, and some tenacity, I got it finished within a couple months.

A new pick up line application called Pick Up Lines That Work is now available on the iPhone App Store for the iPhone and iPod touch. With over 1500 pick up lines, fifteen categories, tips, hot chicks, and links, it is by far the most complete pick up line app out there. The Pick Up Lines That Work app is based off the book by the same name, which was compiled from comic Devon Wild's experiences in his twenties in the Seattle and Los Angeles single scene.
The app delivers pick up lines that start conversations in fun and provocative ways. Devon Wild exclaims, "Most pick up lines don't work because they are too direct, cheesy, and close-ended statements. Pick up lines that work tend to be non-direct, funny, and open-ended questions that make it easy and fun for a girl to respond."
Devon Wild realized a need for conversation starters when he was studying the art of picking up women in his early twenties. "There was a lot of technique and philosophy out there but there wasn't anything in terms of a large assortment of conversation starters. What I learned in my time in the single scene is that it's easier to get started talking to a girl if you have a fun non-threatening opener. An approach of curiosity and deflected interest is not one that women are used to and it's generally well received."
Of course anyone that has tried to pick up women in a social scene knows that it takes more than just a pick up line to win a girl over. In the app Devon Wild shares fourteen tips that really made a difference in his success with pick up and if followed should help any bachelor be more successful with delivering his pick up line, continuing the conversation, and getting the girl's digits. "Meeting a girl at work or in school is easy because you have multiple exposures and you have plenty of time to build up your courage. Picking up a girl in a one-shot situation is an art that has to be studied like anything else, but the app should give guys an upper hand against their competition who are still using pick up lines from the eighties."
After moving to Los Angeles to pursue comedy in 2001, Devon Wild met his future wife, Emanuela, at a bar on the Sunset Strip called Dublin's. With his bachelorhood behind him Devon Wild decided to share his knowledge in his book Pick Up Lines That Work which was published in 2004. Now, with more and more people interested in the pick up arts as witnessed with the success of VH1's "The Pick-Up Artist" and Neil Straus' book The Game, Devon Wild decided that 2009 was a great time to come out with an app that updated his book and gave guys a discreet tool they could use in the singles scene.
As a struggling stand-up comic living off of small book royalty checks and comedy club deejaying, Devon Wild decided to buy a Mac, hire an Apple Xcode developer, and give the iPhone app a shot. Although the gamble has maxed out his credit card, he has seen sales starting to trickle in. "In this economy when your job may be gone tomorrow I think the iPhone app market is an exciting market to enter and if you take advantage of websites like rentacoder.com and elance.com you can find someone to do the job for you for just a couple hundred dollars. I'm a total non-techie, but with a Dummies book, an outsourced coder, and some tenacity, I got it finished within a couple months."
Whether or not the app proves to be a big success is yet to be seen but in his studies of picking up women and stand up-comedy he finds stand-up comedy a lot harder. "When you're picking up a girl, that's only one person that you're trying to impress and even if you strike out, there's another lady down the bar. In stand up comedy you're trying to impress fifty to hundred people at a time and if you're striking out, you can't just walk out of your set and go to the next comedy club."
The Pick Up Lines That Work app is available for both the iPhone and iPod touch on the iPhone App Store for $2.99. Devon Wild has a limited amount of promotional codes for his app on the iPhone App Store for journalists that are interested in covering this story. Please contact if interested.
