Appcelerator®, the leading mobile cloud platform for rapidly developing native mobile, desktop, and tablet applications using web technologies, today launched its CODESTRONG™ Hackathon. The developer contest, which is open to all CODESTRONG 2011 conference registrants, will award cash and prizes, including a $10,000 grand prize to the developer or team who creates the most innovative mobile app on Appcelerator’s Titanium™ platform.
The contest begins today, and concludes Tuesday, September 20th, when applicants submit their entries to CODESTRONG Hackathon judges. To participate, developers must register at CODESTRONG 2011 on September 19th at the InterContinental Hotel in San Francisco, start building their application on or after September 6, and then submit their entry at the conference by 5:00 pm Pacific Time on September 20th. Cash and prizes for the top 5 most innovative and useful apps will be awarded on September 20th at 6:00 pm.
Developers may work alone or in a team to build applications that target any one of the mobile and/or tablet platforms. Applicants are encouraged to use Titanium premium mobile APIs (available for a free 30-day trial at http://www.appcelerator.com/hackathon-account ) or other Titanium extensions, and may use the Appcelerator community forum or any paid support subscriptions when developing their app. In addition, Appcelerator engineers will be available to support contestants during the CODESTRONG conference.
The judging criteria for the CODESTRONG Hackathon are as follows:
- Depth of integration with Titanium APIs: Does the application take advantage of the unique functionality such as native user interface elements, social networking or geo-location features offered by the Titanium platform? Does it leverage Titanium advanced APIs like push notifications, in-app purchasing or barcode scanning?
- Utility: Is the application useful to a consumer or business person?
- User Experience: Is the application easy to use? Is it graphically appealing?
- Level of Innovation: Is the application unique and innovative? Does it bring new functionality to mobile devices?
“The beauty of Titanium is that developers can leverage a host of modules, extensions and native capabilities to create incredibly innovative apps in a very short period of time,” said Nolan Wright, Appcelerator CTO and co-founder. “We are excited to showcase the latest and greatest in mobile development at CODESTRONG.
