Curl Announces General Availability of Its Curl Data Kit

Second product to be delivered from companys open source initiative allows data-centric application development in Curl; features support for client-side SQLite databases

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) July 7, 2008 -- Curl®, Inc. today announced the release of its Curl Data Kit (CDK), the second product to be delivered from Curls Open Source initiative. As the newest addition to Version 6.0 of the Curl Rich Internet Application (RIA) Platform, the CDK library facilitates building data-centric applications in Curl and provides support for local SQL databases. By allowing the storage and retrieval of data using the popular SQLite engine, the CDK library is an important foundation for occasionally connected computing (OCC) applications developed with Curl.

The Curl Nitro beta release, an extension of the Curl RIA Platform, incorporates the SQLite engine in the Curl Run Time Environment (RTE), providing CDK-based application a reduced footprint with the full benefit of the Curl security model. Recently released sample applications such as the CurlGraph use the CDK for local storage when disconnected, showcasing Curl Nitros Fit Client or Desktop RIA capabilities. In addition, SQLite databases are fully integrated with the Curl DATA-ACCESS functionality, enabling the use of standard Curl techniques for presentation and manipulation such as RecordView, RecordGrid, RecordForm and DataBinding.

News Image We are always looking for new ways to extend Curls features and functionality to make it the Fit Client platform of choice for enterprises looking to build Rich Internet Applications, said Jnan Dash, chief strategy officer, Curl, Inc. By adding the CDK library, we are allowing the Curl developer community to take advantage of the full power of SQLite, the most widely deployed SQL database engine in the world.

The CDK project was established in 2007 as part of Curls Open Source strategy to broaden its enterprise RIA platform and empower the Curl developer community by establishing a common repository of open source component libraries. As part of the CDK Open Source project, Curl released two previews to the community prior to making it generally available.

In addition to the CDK, Curl established two additional open source projects: the Web Services Development Kit (WSDK), which was made generally available earlier this year; and the Curl Development Utilities (CDU), which provides functions supporting application development including unit testing and project development. All three projects are provided under the Apache V2.0 License and hosted by SourceForge.

Curl allows corporations with legacy client-server applications to move to Web-based delivery, increasing reach and reducing cost. Founded in 1998, Curl is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumisho Computer Systems. Curl has over 300 customers and 40 partners world-wide.
