James Sweizer, Vice President of Military Programs at American Public University System (APUS) (http://www.apus.edu)], was recently elected President-Elect of the Council of Colleges and Military Educators (CCME) at their annual symposium in San Francisco, Calif. CCME is the only national organization for professional military educators. Sweizer was most recently Vice President, Institutions, for CCME.
“CCME is comprised of academic institutions and the military community whose mission is to promote and deliver quality education to all branches of the military,” said Sweizer. “I’m looking forward to continuing my relationship with such a powerful voice in military education.”
As Vice President of Military Programs at APUS, Sweizer oversees all military outreach activities and serves as the main liaison between the university and Department of Defense agencies. Sweizer served in the United States Air Force for over 33 years as an active duty member and civil servant before joining APUS. He has an extensive background in adult continuing education and served as a guidance counselor and education services officer at a variety of overseas and stateside military installations.
“Jim’s past service as an Education Officer and Chief of Air Force Education, combined with his current duties at APUS, gives him a unique and multi-faceted perspective on military voluntary education,” said Carol Gilbert, Senior Vice President of Marketing for APUS. "Jim's leadership role at CCME will benefit from his extensive experience and unwavering commitment to military service members."
Sweizer holds an M.A. in Education from North Dakota State University and a B.A. in Psychology from Minot State University. He is a graduate of the Air War College non-resident program and Harvard University’s Institute for the Management of Lifelong Education.
