In a marketplace that increasingly places value on customization and personalization, The Sofa Company has opened its newest store in the City of Pasadena. Located at 100 W. Green St., the store not only features a wide selection of ready-made furnishings but also offers customers the ability to order a completely customized sofa, right down to the type of fabric and the legs.

"We're unique in the industry and our new Pasadena store celebrates this is in grand style," said Nick Ostroff, co-owner of The Sofa Company. "We not only sell a wide range of stylish and top quality accent chairs, recliners, sectionals, dining chairs, kid-sized furniture and ottomans but we also build sofas to order, all built right here in California. We're something of a success story and a rarity in this respect - a company that designs and builds beautiful furniture right here in the United States to our customer's specifications."

The store opened in the historic Friend Paper Company building, which was designed in the mid-century Modernist style by famed architect, Wayne R. Williams. In renovating the building, The Sofa Company went to great lengths to preserve the original character of the architecture, right down to the characteristic accordion-pleated roof and walls of glass.

The new showroom features a newly expanded second story mezzanine that creates an intimate showroom experience, said Ostroff. "The great part about the store here in Pasadena is that people can make a day of it. They can stop by the store, see our many stock and custom options for furnishing their home or office, and then have lunch at one of the many great eateries here in Old Town Pasadena while they make a decision. The store is at the corner of Green and Delacey, just a block south of Colorado, so it's within easy walking distance of restaurants and quaint shops in the historic part of town."

Founded by three college friends - Jim Hwang, Peter Lien and Nick Ostroff - The Sofa Company opened for business in 1998 as a furniture clearance center for a sofa factory. Today, the company employs 30 employees in its headquarters and factory, as well as sales staff in its Pasadena and Santa Monica showrooms.
