Construction has started on AXIS Architecture + Design’s remodel project at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento. The San Francisco architecture firm has been employed to be the architect for a new and improved lobby, restaurant and meeting rooms to accommodate clients visiting the City of Sacramento. Given the property’s close proximity to the State Capitol, the remodel was perfectly timed in order to coincide with the slow summertime legislative season.

The new designs will help the hotel stay fresh. This is in keeping with Hyatt’s evolving standards that are focused on combining simplicity with some elegant touches that capture the architectural essence of Sacramento.

Upon completion, return visitors will see many changes. The imposing hotel check-in counter will be replaced by a number of desk-like pods that will allow employees to walk out and greet new guests. San Francisco modern architecture elements and upgrades will be added to the Vines Café and the Amourath 1819 lounge in the lobby and meeting spaces on the second and 15th floor.

"I am fortunate to work on behalf of an ownership group that understands the importance of reinvesting to maintain the competitive advantage of the hotel,” said Scott VanderBerg, the new general manager of Hyatt Regency Sacramento. “In turn, the architects have done an outstanding job of positioning us to accomplish the renovation during the summer months while the legislators who work across the street at the State Capitol are on break. This presents us with a narrow window within which to operate. When the session reopens in September, our customers will enjoy a new cutting edge design which will elevate the property, and as importantly, will excite the staff, knowing that they work in the pre-eminent hotel in the City."

AXIS Architecture + Design, is the architecture firm for the project and they are working closely with the interior designers, Looney and Associates. Bids were received from general contractors and the project was awarded to CW Horton. The construction cost is in the range of $3 million with an expected completion date of September 2011. This same team completed a renovation of all 500+ guest rooms in 2008.

The Hyatt Regency Sacramento project is just another example of the expertise offered by Axis Architecture + Design.
“We go beyond the physical dimensions of an environment. Our vision connects people to the space and to each other,” said Cory Creath of Axis Architecture + Design
