Online UK wine retailer Naked Wines, who supports independent producers from around the world, has commissioned five new Argentinian wines by award-winning producer Mauricio Lorca.
The new range of wines, which are exclusive to the Norwich-based retailer, were made possible through customer funding.
“Since launching in December 2008, our Angel customers have helped us fund 22 winemakers who were looking to break into the UK or go it alone,” explained Rowan Gormley, Founder of Naked Wines.
“Between them, they invest over £1million a month to unearth new winemaking talent, and they leapt at the chance of supporting Mauricio, who was making fantastic wines on a very small scale.
They singled Mauricio out at the London International Wine Fair in 2009, and within two years they’ve helped him increase his production by 70%”
The five new wines, which include a Torrontes, a Reserve Malbec and a Malbec Syrah, are starting to receive some enthusiastic customer reviews:
Dale Batchelor on the Angel’s Reserve Malbec 2010: “This is a truly awesome wine. Made better in the knowing that we helped make it. I am not one for the descriptions, nose, tongue, finish etc, but if you like a fruity wine, that offers so much more than cab savs of a similar price, get involved! I urge you.”
Hannah Mercer on the Angel’s Reserve Torrontes 2010: “A beautifully aromatic wine… it’s refreshing, zingy and vibrant. The flavours of passion fruit and peach abound and it transported me to a balcony, near a beach, with the sound of warm waves crashing on the shores. Lovely - and fantastic on its own.”
Wendy Whyte on the Lirico Malbec Syrah 2010: "I loved this wine, it had a plummy spicy taste to it, absolutely delicious. Wish I had got more but defo a favourite."
