Bay Area industrial arts school, The Crucible, is offering its Summer Immersion Workshops again this year, with blacksmithing, glass flameworking, glass blowing, and welding classes for adults and youth of all skill levels.

“This is a week-long accelerated program that consolidates what would typically be taught over the course of weeks or months,” said Kristy Alfieri, education director of The Crucible. “Students will gain new skills much more quickly than in our other programs. No experience is necessary to take these art classes.”

The adult workshops will be held Monday-Thursday, July 16-19 from 10 am 10 pm and Friday, July 20 from 10 am-6 pm, and the Youth Immersion Workshops will take place on Monday-Friday, July 30-August 3 from 9 am-4 pm each day.

Last year, The Crucible introduced the program with two adult workshops in blacksmithing and glass flameworking. Due to popular demand, The Crucible has expanded the program to include adult workshops in glass blowing and welding, as well as offerings for youth ages 12-17 in blacksmithing, glass flameworking and ARC welding, and glass blowing workshops for ages 14-17.

The Crucible’s Summer Immersion Workshops are designed to give adults and youth an opportunity embark on a deep-dive study in a particular curriculum area. In five full days of study, students will learn theory, principles and extensive techniques that will give artisans, experienced or not, the necessary proficiency to work independently using new and exciting skills.
