The Brooks’ Art of Good Taste Season Celebrates “La Dolce Vita”

This spring, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will launch its most ambitious wine auction season to date.

Art of Good Taste patrons enjoy sampling wines from around the world.

Now entering its 17th year, this perennially popular wine auction series continues to attract renowned chefs and prominent international vintners.

This spring, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will launch its most ambitious wine auction season to date. The Art of Good Taste 2010 salutes the wine, cuisine, and art of Italy as we celebrate “La Dolce Vita” by welcoming some of the country’s finest vintners to Memphis to participate in the events. The Italian-inspired events are a perfect compliment to the museum’s blockbuster exhibition Venice in the Age of Caneletto, on view February 14 – May 10.

Now entering its 17th year, this perennially popular wine auction series continues to attract renowned chefs and prominent international vintners. The Brooks is proud to announce that an unprecedented number of vintners will travel from Italy to be featured during The Art of Good Taste series. Guests will experience an exciting array of offerings from multiple regions, including the wineries: Badia a Coltibuono (Chianti), La Valentina (Montepulciano), Tenuta Sant'Antonio (Amarone), Lageder (Alto Adige), Marco Felluga (Collio), Vietti (Piedmont-Barolo), and Casanova di Neri (Montalcino, Brunello).

The museum is also pleased to welcome celebrity chef and author Lidia Bastianich; award-winning chef Ken Vedrinksi of Charleston’s Sienna Restaurant; and Marc Orfaly, Executive Chef of Pigalle in Boston; who will work in concert with Brushmark Executive Chef Wally Joe and Chef de Cuisine Andrew Adams.

As the premiere fundraising event for the Brooks, The Art of Good Taste has contributed over $2.5 million towards the museum’s educational programming, travelling exhibitions, and ever-expanding permanent collection. Over the years, The Art of Good Taste has grown from a single wine auction to four main events: the Fleming’s Wine Dinner, Brooks Uncorked, the Patrons Dinner, and the Grand Auction.

Fleming’s Wine Dinner presented by Dixon-Hughes
Sunday, February 28, 2010 | 6 pm
Hosted by The Parker Family in memory of Tony Parker, featuring the wines of Silver Oak and Twomey, special guest winemaker Ben Cane, a five-course dinner by Chef William Kloos and exciting live auction items with auctioneer Jeff Morris, Morris Auction Group.
Tickets: $150 per person

Brooks Uncorked: A Taste of the Sweet Life
Friday, April 16, 2010 | 7 pm
It’s time to Ciao! Chow that is…at Brooks Uncorked: ATaste of the Sweet Life featuring local restaurants serving our favorite fare and over 50 wines from around the world. Your plate will be full and your cup will runneth over with a silent auction and DJ Raiford on the terrace.
VIP admission includes a private champagne reception beginning at 6:30 pm with special offerings by Chefs Wally Joe & Andrew Adams of the Brushmark and premium wines until 8:30 pm.
Tickets: $100 general admission; $150 VIP admission

Patrons Dinner presented by SunTrust

Bon Apetito! This elegant black-tie optional evening features seven prominent winemakers from Italian wineries including: Tenuta Sant’Antonio, Badia a Coltibuono, Casanova de Neri , Vietti, La Valentina, and Alois Lageder poured alongside a five course Italian meal by celebrity chefs Ken Vedrinksi and Marc Orfaly working in concert with Brushmark Chefs Wally Joe and Andrew Adams. With live auction items and our special guest winemakers, this will be a night to remember.
Tickets: $500 per person, tables available

The Grand Auction & A Taste of Italy
Saturday, May 8, 2010 | 4 pm
Begin the afternoon with a tasting of Italian specialties from the finest local Italian restaurants. Meet celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich, bid on the silent auction and enjoy an abundance of fine wine from our featured vintners before moving into the tent for the main event. The live auction features wine from some of the world’s most prestigious cellars, exclusive trips, tastings, dinners, artwork and jewelry. To make the auction even more dynamic, the Brooks has enlisted the talents of Chicago-based auctioneer, Christopher Klingenstein for the evening.
