WhoHasTheRemote.com awarded the title of Artist of the Week to Johnny Depp this week. A recent report in Huff Post Entertainment detailed the possibility of Depp being cast in a new adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. The thought is exciting, as the star enjoyed success in playing Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd in 2007. Depp is known for his diversity and ability to adapt to whatever role he takes on. For his immense talent and many contributions to entertainment, Who Has The Remote? names Mr. Depp its Artist of the Week.

The first major role for Johnny Depp was in 1984’s Nightmare on Elm Street, but what really pushed him into the role of teen idol in the late 1980s was his part on the popular TV show 21 Jump Street. Some of his best work however comes from character acting in film. Depp is perhaps best known for roles on characters such as Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Sweeney Todd, and the Mad Hatter. No matter what type of character he plays, he brings a certain whimsy and oddball personality to his films.

Depp is well known for his collaborations with director Tim Burton, and the movies they make together are almost always instant successes. While the actor does quite well in whimsical roles that Burton’s films always provide, he is also quite good at serious, heartfelt roles, such as in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) and Finding Neverland (2004). One of his more admirable traits as an actor is the fact that he chooses roles that interest him, instead of those that he thinks will score big at the box office.

Mr. Depp’s résumé is extensive, and fans enjoy the fact that a large number of his successful films can be watched time and time again on dish network ipad. Next up for Depp are The Lone Ranger (summer 2013), Transcendence (2014), and the newly announced Pirates of the Caribbean 5, due in 2015.

Who Has The Remote? named Johnny Depp as the Artist of the Week for his many successes in the entertainment industry. Mr. Depp excels as a character actor, but he is also able to deliver a stirring dramatic performance.
