New York / Berlin, January 2013—artnet Auctions is hosting its first Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art sale, which will include over 50 exquisite paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and prints. The sale features works by internationally recognized Latin American masters such as Vik Muniz, Diego Rivera, Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Carlos Cruz Diez, and Beatriz Milhazes, with estimates ranging from US$2,500 to US$350,000.
Featured in the sale is Les pandrelles du soir, an iconic oil on canvas painting by world renowned Chilean artist Roberto Matta, estimated at US$150,000–250,000. In this piece, the artist blurs reality with psychological manifestations; Matta demonstrates the bridge between the Surreal and Abstract Expressionist styles, all the while expressing a complex personal emotion through intense visual language.

Another highlight of the sale is a work by the highly acclaimed Vik Muniz. The Sower, after Van Gogh (2011), estimated at US$6,000 to US$8,000, utilizes everyday materials including chocolate, peanut butter, sugar, and dirt to reference contemporary visual culture and revisit classical images from art history.

Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art is live on artnet Auctions from January 14 through January 24, 2013, and on view here.
