I think readers will be able to laugh at the funny stories of the delicate time between childhood and adolescence and reflect on their own memories that they may have forgotten through the years.

The new novel, “Toothpick Legs” (published by Archway Publishing), by Ashley Warren tells the story of a young woman reminiscing about what school dances, slumber parties, spelling bees and Valentine’s Day were like for her as a preteen.

Ashley Vaughn, now an adult, recalls her experience as a 12-year-old girl living in Texas in the 1990s. She is navigating life surrounded by family, friends and teachers. Her unconventional, yet loving parents provide many entertaining moments through their involvement in school functions and their attire. Ashley’s best friend and sidekick, Kristen Bennett, accompanies her throughout the journey, and Ashley’s teachers provide humor and a minimal amount of drama, as they often see things differently than Ashley and her classmates.

“I think readers will be able to laugh at the funny stories of the delicate time between childhood and adolescence and reflect on their own memories that they may have forgotten through the years,” Warren says. “I would hope that readers relate to Ashley’s experiences, and I hope that her stories take on a universal tone and remind readers of their own collective moments of childhood.”
