Students graduating from Ashworth’s accredited veterinary assistant training course will gain the knowledge and confidence to pursue a rewarding career.

Ashworth College recently rolled out content revisions to its online Veterinary Assistant Training program. The within the revised course, students will experience greater emphasis on job opportunities, as well as animal emergency care, nutrition and dentistry.

The U.S. Department of Labor projects that job opportunities for veterinary assistants will increase as much as 14% by 2010, making this a highly desirable field.

“Depending on where they work, veterinary assistants can expect to interact with a number of species including household pets, farm animals, and exotics and they can expect to perform a wide range of tasks, from administering basic first aid to post-surgery monitoring and care to administering medications and performing routine laboratory tests,” said Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Ashworth College’s Chief Academic Officer. “Students graduating from Ashworth’s accredited veterinary assistant training course will gain the knowledge and confidence to pursue a rewarding career.”

Ashworth’s Veterinary Assistant Program

The Ashworth College veterinary assistant training course is comprised of Ashworth’s popular Introduction to Study Skills unit and 22 online lessons that are easy to follow yet challenging and applicable in the real world. Each lesson begins with a subject matter preview and objectives, an introductory note from your instructor, and a vocabulary builder of new words and terms.

In addition to emergency care, dentistry and nutrition, vet assistant lessons also cover:

  •     Behavior and Physical Restraint
  •     Pathology, Preventive Medicine and Disease
  •     Laboratory Procedures
  •     Ethics and Professionalism
  •     Diagnostic Imaging
  •     Anesthesia
  •     Surgical Nursing
  •     Nursing of Dogs, Cats, Horses, Food Animals and Orphaned and Wild Animals
