This season marks the ninth annual Aspen Snowmass Bud Light Spring Jam, the Rocky Mountains’ premier spring festival featuring concerts, ski and snowboard competitions, parties and more. Bud Light Spring Jam is two weekends long with events March 20 – 22 and March 27 – 29, 2009.

Rusted Root will kick-off Spring Jam at the CORE Party, a free concert in downtown Aspen, at the cross streets of Galena Avenue and Cooper Street on Friday, March 20 from 8 – 11 p.m.
A new event, Fallen Friends, has been added on Saturday, March 21 at Aspen Highlands, honoring fallen friends over the last few years. This event will feature teams of two to five athletes competing in a one-of-a-kind snow course combining jumps, bumps and park features and will benefit one of the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) scholarship funds.
Additional Spring Jam favorites including the 10th Annual KickAspen Big Air Invitational, Crocs Terrain Park Boot Camp, Red Bull Schnee Tag and the Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls will all return this season.
Bud Light Big Air Friday Series – Ongoing through April 3
This entertaining eight-week series is entering its sixth year at Snowmass. The best snowboarders and skiers in the valley descend upon Fanny Hill each Friday to perform the latest tricks for a chance at a prize purse and series points from 2 – 3 p.m. each Friday. This event began on February 13 and will continue every Friday through April 3. Live music in Snowmass base village and fireworks over Fanny Hill follow the Snowmass Big Air competition each week.
CORE Party featuring Rusted Root – March 20 – 8 p.m.
Kicking off Spring Jam is the CORE Party in downtown Aspen on Friday, March 20 featuring Rusted Root. Rusted Root combines jam and rock sounds with strong percussion influences and is best known for their hits “Send Me On My Way,” and “Ecstacy.” The show is FREE and open to the public, taking place on the corner of Galena Street and Cooper Avenue. Enjoy the beer garden, munch on kettle corn and check out the Aspen Art Museum’s interactive “Portrait Studio” with artist Patterson Beckwith.
Fallen Friends Memorial Event – March 21 – 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
This one-day inaugural event will gather teams of two to five to compete in a course of jumps, bumps and park features on Scarlett’s Run at Aspen Highlands. The event will feature a DJ, announcers and food and drink specials on the deck of the Merry-Go-Round. Teams are encouraged to dress in a costume and incorporate a common theme. All the proceeds from the event will benefit an Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) scholarship fund in honor of fallen friends over the past few years. Registration is $25 per person.
Tenth Annual KickAspen Big Air Invitational at Aspen Mountain – March 21 – 8-9:30 p.m.
In the Aspen Snowmass Spring Jam Schedule, the best regional ski and snowboard athletes will compete under the lights at the base of Aspen Mountain. Prize giveaways, a beer garden and a DJ will round out the action at the base of the mountain.
Crocs Terrain Park Boot Camp – Saturday & Sunday – March 21 & 22, 28 & 29 – 12-3 p.m.
The CrocsTerrain Park Book Camp is an entry level terrain park that will be set up at Snowmass. Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club coaches and athletes will teach beginners (13 and up) how to safely slide a rail, hit a box and throw a trick. From children to parents, this is open to anyone interested in learning the ropes of the terrain park. It will be open from 12-3 p.m. on March 21 & 22, 28 & 29.
Free Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series – March 22 & 27 – Featuring Sam Bush and Ratatat – Times TBD
The popular free Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series will continue on Sunday, March 22 in Snowmass featuring Sam Bush, a progressive bluegrass artist. The electronic music duo Ratatat will perform on Friday, March 27 at the base of Aspen Mountain. The series has offered six free outdoor concerts held during key events and peak weekends throughout the season.
Red Bull Schnee Tag – March 28 – 2-4 p.m.
Hold on tight for the second annual Schnee Tag event (pronounced Shnee Tog) at Snowmass. Teams of four are invited to create a craft that will slide down Fanny Hill and attempt to soar over a 75x20 foot pond. Each team will perform a skit before their run and will be judged on costume theme, creativity and flight distance of their craft. The craft must be entirely human powered with no external energy sources. The craft must be less than 10 feet wide and weigh less than 400 pounds, including the pilot. Each team will pick just one member to fly their craft across the pond.
Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls – March 29 – 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
The second annual Helly HansenvBattle in the Bowls event, hosted by Aspen/Snowmass Athlete Chris Davenport, features teams of two using Flaik GPS devices to track how skilled each duo is at skiing the many bowls of Aspen Highlands. This year there will be a competitive and non-competitive division. The goal is for each team in each division to finish the course, determined by Davenport, within the four hour time frame. The cost is $75 per team and each participant receives a Helly Hansen base layer with the event logo. This is open to any skier or snowboarder who enjoys riding Aspen Highlands.
