SnowSports Industries America (SIA) has named Four-Mountain Sports and D&E Ski & Snowboard Shop the Mountain Region SnowSports Retailer of the Year. The announcement was made on January 9, 2007 by SIA - the national not-for-profit trade association representing the winter sports industry.

This distinction was based on nominations from representatives and suppliers within SIA. Shops were recognized for their innovative marketing ideas and outstanding retail promotions. This award also recognizes retailers for exemplary customer service and their ability to continue to expand customer base.

"This tremendous award speaks volumes about our team's hard work and dedication and we are honored to be recognized by our own within the snow sports industry," said Derek Johnson, Managing Director of Rental and Retail for Aspen/Snowmass.

With stores at all four area mountains - Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk - Four-Mountain Sports/D&E Ski and Snowboard Shop has implemented innovative marketing ideas and outstanding retail promotions. The stores offer convenient programs for the customer including free overnight storage and transfer to any of the four mountains by 8am and one-stop shopping for clothing, accessories, logo wear, rentals, lift tickets and ski and snowboard school.

"Several years ago we started to get serious about the equipment rental and retail business with a vision to have a complete focus on the customer," said Jim Laing, Vice President of Retail Operations. "The idea was to give our guests the best products and experience available, while respecting their time and positively impacting their overall resort experience which embraces Aspen Skiing Company's overall mission of excellent customer service."

Four-Mountain Sports has tailored a rental shop for any participant of the resort's Beginner's Magicâ„¢ program. Located in Snowmass Village Mall, the store invites beginner skiers and snowboarders into a more serene environment, supplying them with a comforting approach to getting set up with equipment and understanding what their day ahead entails.

In December 2006, D&E Women, a women-specific ski and snowboard shop, opened above Aspen's downtown D&E location. D&E Women is the first women's specific winter sports store in Aspen and is virtually one-of-a-kind in the country, with hard and soft goods as well as lifestyle products for young and adult women.

"I have worked with this group for many years, it really is a pleasure to work alongside them," said Mike "Gags" Gagliardi, SIA's Rep of the Year. "They have a real desire to work as a partner with reps, they've committed to growing brands they believe in, and they've committed to bringing a professional merchandising and shop layout to each of their rental and retail locations."

According to SIA, Gorsuch, Ltd., with stores in Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek and Keystone, was another retailer who received a significant amount of nominations. Cole Sports in Park City, Utah was the recipient of this award in 2006.

The SIA SnowSports Retailer of the Year Award Ceremony takes place during the SIA trade show in Las Vegas on January 23 in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
