Fifteen high school students volunteered their time on Oct. 19 to help make a Fall Party for residents of the Eagle Ridge affordable assisted living community in Decatur, Illinois, much more enjoyable.
Eagle Ridge is designed to serve older adults who need some help to maintain their independence but do not need skilled nursing care.
The students were from St. Teresa Catholic High School in Decatur. They selected the opportunity to volunteer at Eagle Ridge for the school’s 2012 Fall Lend-A-Hand Day assignment.
They showed off their apple bobbing and mummy wrapping skills and joined residents for a game of pass the pumpkin.
Afterwards, they socialized with residents over the mid-day meal in the Eagle Ridge dining room.
The students who volunteered their time at Eagle Ridge were Jacqueline Brady, Bailey Bloomfield, Camila Dayson, Rachel Devereux, Meredith Fitzgerald, Stephanie Ganley, Shae Genebacher, Amber Grubbs, Tess Lamb, Nicole Little, Madison Mooney, Emma Reedy, Chloe' Toussaint, Bree Tschosik and Kelsie Wujek.
Eagle Ridge is certified to operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program, which enables the community to serve adults 65 and older of all incomes, including those on Medicaid.
The community is managed by BMA Management, Ltd., of Bradley, Illinois. BMA is the largest provider of assisted living in Illinois and the 16 largest provider of assisted living in the country.
Among the communities managed by BMA are Bridle Brook of Mahomet and Prairie Winds of Urbana.
The Eagle Ridge affordable assisted living community is located at 875 W. McKinley Rd. in Decatur, Illinois.
