Heritage Woods of DeKalb, a BMA affordable assisted living community, will offer Tai Chi for Seniors at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays during the month of January.

Located at 2626 N. Annie Glidden Rd. in DeKalb, Illinois, Heritage Woods serves older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid, who need some help to maintain their independence.

"We invite seniors who live in the area to join residents of our assisted living community for Tai Chi," says Sylvia McGee, Administrator of Heritage Woods of DeKalb.

There is no cost to attend.

Also, Heritage Woods of DeKalb is hosting an Orange Bowl Party to cheer on the Northern Illinois University football team at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1.

"Come cheer on the Huskies as they play in their first BCS bowl game," says McGee.

"Our community provides older adults with a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or to struggling alone at home," says McGee.

Residents live in private apartments and receive the personal assistance and help with medications they need.

Each of the apartments features a kitchenette, spacious bathroom with shower and grab bars, and an emergency alert system.

Certified nursing assistants are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Meals, housekeeping and laundry services are included.

"Our focus is on providing residents with the love, compassion and dignity that they deserve in addition to the help and assistance that they need," says McGee. "Our emphasis is on helping each resident achieve and maintain as much independence as possible for as long as possible."

The community is certified to operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program and is managed by BMA Management, Ltd., the largest provider of assisted living in Illinois.

Based in Bradley, Illinois, BMA manages 36 senior living communities, housing more than 3,300 homes and apartments.

The communities managed by BMA include the Heritage Woods affordable assisted living communities in Belvidere, Moline, Ottawa, Rockford and Sterling, Illinois.
