Cambridge House of Swansea, a BMA affordable assisted living community, is hosting a Pet Parade at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19.

The community, which is located at 3900 Sullivan Dr. in Swansea, Illinois, serves older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid, who need some help to maintain their independence.

"We invite you to come and enjoy the fun and enter your pet in the parade," says Tammy Loman, Director of Marketing for Cambridge House of Swansea. Residents of Cambridge House will be voting on the Best in Show and a prize will be awarded to the winner.

All types of pets are welcome, and there is no cost to enter a pet.

Cambridge House of Swansea is one of three Cambridge House affordable assisted living communities in the St. Louis Metro East area. The other communities are located in Maryville and O'Fallon.

All three communities are certified to operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program and are managed by BMA Management, Ltd., the largest provider of assisted living in Illinois.

The communities combine residential apartment-home living with the availability of personal assistance, help with medications, and a variety of convenience and support services.

Each of the private one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments features a kitchenette, spacious bathroom with shower and grab bars, individually-controlled heating and air conditioning and an emergency alert system.

Certified nursing assistants, working under the direction of a licensed nurse, are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All three meals each day, housekeeping and laundry are among the included services.

"We provide older adults with a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or to struggling along at home," says Loman.

She adds that "residents also benefit from all of the opportunities that are available to socialize with friends and neighbors and to participate in activities and special events."

Based in Bradley, Illinois, BMA Management operates 36 assisted living, senior living and memory care communities that together house nearly 3,400 homes and apartments.

"Our focus," says Rod Burkett, President and CEO of BMA Management, "is to provide residents with the love, compassion and dignity that they deserve and the help and assistance that they need. Our emphasis is on helping each resident to acheive and maintain as much independence as possible for as long as possible."

Communities managed by BMA include the Prairie Winds affordable assisted living community in Carbondale, Illinois and the Heritage Woods affordable assisted living communities in Benton, Flora, McLeansboro and Mt. Vernon.

BMA also operates Heritage Woods of Centralia. The community features affordable assisted living apartments, senior living apartments and rental homes for low-income adults 55 and older.
