The Co-founder of SPORTSMANIAS.COM, Vicente Fernandez, a current student at the University of Chicago and sports editor of the Maroon, was recently awarded an APSE Scholarship and his startup sports news aggregator site was featured in this month’s APSE newsletter.

Joe Sullivan, Managing Editor and Sports Editor of the Boston Globe informed him of this prestigious recognition which was received by only four outstanding college students in the nation this year. The APSE Scholarship committee consists of John Bednarowski of the Maretta, Ga. Journal, Judy Connelly of the Middletown, NY Times Herald-Record, Mike Harris of the Washington Times, Mike James of the Los Angeles, Paul Vigan of the Patriots-news in Mechanicsburg, Pa. and Sullivan.

Vicente Fernandez informed Sullivan that aside from his sports editing role at the Maroon, he is launching a sports site, SPORTSMANIAS.COM, that will provide sports fans easy access to the best information available on team news as covered by local newspaper beat writers.SPORTSMANIAS.COM was created based on the premise that sports fans interested in following their teams on a daily basis spend way too much time searching for relevant news on the web.

Fernandez stated, “People my age aren’t reading newspapers, but I think the best source of information is newspaper writers”. As a solution to this, SPORTSMANIAS.COM offers a simple, fast and effective way in which a user simply signs up, registers their favorite teams and automatically receives feeds of newspaper articles from local beat writers whom cover their select teams featuring in-depth professional content. SPORTSMANIAS.COM will display tweets and news articles that will drive traffic to newspaper web sites as their original sources.

The difference between SPORTSMANIAS.COM and other sites currently available is that unlike ESPN which covers mostly national news or Bleacher Report which is composed of blogs, SPORTSMANIAS.COM retrieves constant feeds of local professional news tailored to the user.

SPORTSMANIAS.COM understands the loyalty of the diehard to his team and has created a site that brings every sports fan directly the best inside scoop on their favorite team by featuring real-time streams of content from local newspaper beatwriters that make a living out of following those teams' every move and reporting it professionally.

The SPORTSMANIAS.COM slogan represents their focus on the importance of the local newspaper beatwriters: Straight from the guys who GET IT. Sportsmanias GETS IT TO YOU.
