Astaro (http://www.astaro.com), leading vendor of network security appliances, today announced that it has been named one of the top 20 Companies to Watch in 2009 by Linux Magazine. This list features vendors that are best positioned in the coming year to spur Linux and Open Source adoption while delivering on the immediate needs of the marketplace.

In 2008, Astaro was recognized as the ninth most active employer for changesets produced in the Linux 2.6.25 release, according to research published by the Linux Foundation. Developer Patrick McHardy was been ranked as the 2nd most active developer by changesets and 12th by the total number of changed lines. He is currently the Chairman of the Netfilter (a Linux kernal subsystem) core team, which Astaro has sponsored since 2002, along with several other open source projects.
