AP9 AtHomeRewards Says, "Fall Back into Home Maintenance"

The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

At Home Rewards (SM), a leading membership discount program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC®, knows that this can be a transitional time; the end of summer and the beginning of Fall often call for some changes around the house. But don't get the "end-of-summer blues." Instead, charge into Fall with a well-executed Fall home maintenance plan.

Eighteenth-century Scottish poet Robert Burns once wrote, "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." Sure, there's some truth to that, but AtHomeRewards most definitely sees the glass half-full when it comes to seasonal change and overall home improvement. That's why At Home Rewards would like to suggest the following short list of Fall maintenance ideas -- a short list that's potentially long on results:

-- I'm your handyman. 1950s' doo-wopper Jimmy Jones laid the groundwork for the ever-popular "Handyman," which topped the charts again in the late 1970s, courtesy of James Taylor. Whatever the era, hiring a handyman for Fall home improvement projects can definitely be sweet music to a homeowner's ears. Have a handyman take on multiple projects: Change the furnace filter, repair the drywall, repair loose doors, and clean up the gutters. (Getting a jump on winterizing things isn't a bad idea either; consider having Mr./Ms. "Fix It" repair bathroom tiles, fix leaks, winterize sprinklers and fix storm windows.) Prices will vary, but all of the above tasks can likely be done for under $500.

-- Hoover it. Keeping the ducts around the house cleaned and aired out is just a smart move. Hooking up a super-powered vacuum to the house's intake vent can make the heating unit run more efficiently, while also greatly improving the general air quality. Prices vary by region, but the average cost for a "super-vac" is also under $500.

-- Seal the deal. Resealing or replacing the driveway will keep it from cracking and breaking (especially in environments that have both cold and heat extremes). Most companies charge between 10 cents and 25 cents per square foot, while others charge between $85-$100 per 1,000 square feet. Petroleum prices have a lot to do with overall cost, though, so keep an eye on those trends before committing to anything.

-- The truth about carpet cleaning. Most people let carpets go uncleaned until it's, well, time to get a new carpet. Carpet cleaning services can be reasonably priced, though (as low as 16 cents to 20 cents per square foot), and it can make for a sensible addition to any Fall home maintenance plan.
