We have learned that during the winter months blood donations are dangerously low. As a firm, we have chosen this month to contribute to try to make as big as an impact as possible.

In recognition of National Blood Donor Month, The Accident & Disability Attorneys of Monge & Associates will be partnering with the American Red Cross by hosting a blood drive on Monday, January 30, at the firm’s Atlanta office location.

The blood drive will assist the American Red Cross. The organization, which is led by volunteers, provides relief to victims of disaster and helps prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

In the U.S., there are approximately 16 million blood donations and 9.5 million blood donors through the Red Cross, which makes the organization the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the country.

“We have learned that during the winter months blood donations are dangerously low,” said Atlanta personal injury attorney Scott Monge. “As a firm, we have chosen this month to contribute to try to make as big as an impact as possible.”

The American Red Cross struggles during the winter months because of low donations and the short shelf life of blood, Monge said. More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day, and every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. Donating just one pint of blood, in fact, can save the lives of up to three people.

“We strongly believe and are committed to helping people in need,” said Monge, whose Atlanta personal injury law firm assists clients who are seeking disability benefits and those who have suffered severe injuries or lost loved ones due to the negligence or recklessness of others. “You never know if tomorrow you will be the one that is in need of a blood transfusion.”

The American Red Cross estimates that the entire process of giving blood takes approximately 10 minutes. The requirements are simple. The donor must be:

  •     Healthy,
  •     At least 17 years old and
  •     Weigh at least 110 pounds.

If there are any concerns about health issues associated with donating blood, the firm encourages people to visit the American Red Cross website or call (800) RED-CROSS (733-2767).
