Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 26, 2012
Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. Mark F. Deutsch, MD, FACS has seen an increase in tummy tuck procedures performed this year. In the first six months of 2012, this procedure has been requested and performed nearly 50 percent more than in previous years. A tummy tuck, also known as "abdominoplasty," is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles. Dr. Deutsch has also noted an increase in liposuction procedures performed, in part because this procedure, which sculpts and contours the body by removing additional, troublesome fat, is included in all tummy tuck procedures.
Liposuction has quickly become one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, surpassing breast augmentation. The total number of liposuction procedures performed in the United States increased 13 percent between 2010 and 2011. In 2011, Americans spent nearly $1 billion on liposuction alone. “Liposuction is a short outpatient procedure using mild anesthesia with minimal downtime and discomfort,” says Dr. Deutsch. “The lesser discomfort paired with the outstanding results my patients see may explain why the procedure has gained so much popularity.”
According to a study published in the April 2012 issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery ®, “Patients undergoing cosmetic liposuction and/or tummy tuck procedures report significant improvements in self-esteem.” Liposuction and tummy tuck procedures, alone or in combination, provide high levels of patient satisfaction. 88 percent of patients surveyed reported they were satisfied with the results, and 85.8 percent reported improved self-esteem as well.
