when I started burning cookies in my mother's oven.
Atlanta, GA (Vocus) June 6, 2010
Parc Communities, a leader in Atlanta retirement communities with four metro-Atlanta independent living communities, announces the hiring of premier Executive Chef Johnathan Metellus. Parc prides itself on being the premier option in senior living and provides a myriad of features and benefits for its residents. Parc at Buckhead will host a Jazz Luncheon on Sunday, June 13 to celebrate the addition of Metellus to the staff. In addition to the retirement community’s main dining room, Chef Melletus will oversee the three private dining rooms where guests can entertain friends and family, as well as the community’s special events and catering operations.
Chef Johnathan Metellus began his career in the military as a food specialist and has worked in Panama, Honduras, Antigua and throughout the United States. While on duty in Germany, he was given the opportunity to attend a culinary workshop and was awarded a notable mention ribbon in a culinary competition, which further sparked his interest in a career in the culinary arts. However, Chef Melletus maintains that his interest in food and cooking really began “when I started burning cookies in my mother’s oven.”
After a break from the military, Chef Metellus attended the acclaimed Culinary Institute of America where he received a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts management. His extensive career includes apprenticeship at Hotel Pulitzer and Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza, Amsterdam, Netherlands; sous chef at the Seelbach Hotel, Louisville, Kentucky and Sheraton Hotel, New York; and executive chef at Howard University, Washington, DC, and Marriott services at prestigious locations throughout the United States. While working as a culinary arts instructor for educational and private organizations in New York City, Chef Melletus was offered an opportunity to be a managing partner in a restaurant venture in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey where he received “best new & favorite restaurant” in Sussex County. He also received the distinction of Certified Executive Chef from the American Culinary Federation and Certified Food Service Management Professional from The National Restaurant Educational Foundation.
“We are delighted to add a talent of Chef Metellus’ caliber to the Parc at Buckhead team,” said Teri Fahey, vice president of operations for Parc Communities. “Chef Metellus exemplifies Parc’s continuing commitment of providing our residents with the highest level of quality and service.”
