Patients are more concerned with the symmetry of their faces now more than ever.

Dr. Stong is not alone in his observations. The number of American’s having cosmetic chin surgery has increased dramatically in recent years, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Chin augmentation procedures have increased more than breast augmentation, Botox injections and liposuction combined. The ASPS statistics show an increase in chin augmentation procedures by more than 70% in the last couple years. The highest increase for Chin Augmentation Surgery was among people ages 40 to 54 and that is consistent with what Dr. Stong is seeing in his Atlanta office.
“Patients are more concerned with the symmetry of their faces now more than ever,” said Dr. Stong. Video-based communications like Skype and FaceTime force individuals to look at themselves in a new way. A chin augmentation can make a dramatic improvement in a patient’s appearance. ”
Dr. Stong performs chin augmentations alone or in conjunction with other procedures, such as Rhinoplasty to balance the projection of the nose and chin. Chin implants are also often coupled with facelift surgery to help define the neck.
“In the lower third of the face, the projection of the chin is viewed in relation to other parts of the face, primarily the nose. If your chin is disproportioned with the rest of your face and you are looking for a more balanced facial structure, chin augmentation may be the answer,” said Dr. Stong.
