Experienced personal injury attorney Michael S. Wilensky recently spoke to more than 500 students at North Springs High School about the dangers of distracted driving. The presentation was part of, a national effort to raise awareness and generate action against the epidemic of distracted driving.

After Wilensky’s presentation, students gathered outside where the Sandy Springs Fire Rescue demonstrated what is required to remove injury victims from a badly damaged vehicle. Wilensky, an alumnus of NSHS, felt that watching more than a dozen firefighters work to free two injured individuals from a crashed vehicle for 45-minutes hit home with many students. “The rescue workers were using the 'jaws of life,' saws, crowbars, and other machinery to extract victims you knew were badly hurt,” said Wilensky. “Even though it wasn’t a real motor vehicle collision scene, that imagery was very powerful. I feel it will stay in the memories of students, which they will consider when making the choice to do any activity that removes their concentration from the road.”

Faculty and parents at North Springs High School also believed the day provided a great reminder to students that they can actually save lives by making the right decision. “This event was a monumental first that will become an annual event,” said VP of Student Enrichment, Tammie Jenkins. “The willingness of Atty. Wilensky to provide such vital information to our students about a 4-second life changing epidemic that is sweeping the nation was greatly appreciated.”
