“When they get a vacation from school, it is like they take a vacation from cleaning as well,” he said Wednesday.

Eric Cano, the owner of EMJ Cleaning, an Atlanta maid service, was interviewed on his company’s web site about tips for getting children’s rooms organized for summer. Cano decided to give this interview after having several conversations with clients who were lamenting the fact that their children’s rooms become even more cluttered and messy during summer break when children are spending more time at home and more time playing outside, tracking in dirt.
Cano suggests in his interview that not only do children’s rooms become messier because they get dirty outside more often during the summer, but also because summertime is a much less structured period than the school year, and children tend to neglect their chores.
“When they get a vacation from school, it is like they take a vacation from cleaning as well,” he said Wednesday. “It is important to remind them that yes, they can go have fun, but that just because school is out does not mean that they can completely forget about their chores.”
To remedy this behavior, Cano suggests organizing children’s rooms and reducing clutter. “If they have a place for everything and they know where everything goes, they will be more likely to put things up,” he said. “One really helpful thing to do is to pack away winter clothes and other things that they do not need during the summer. Also, making a cleaning schedule and ensuring that they stick to it is incredibly helpful."
