We see a lot of executives that want to retain a polished appearance, as well as men motivated by a significant other.

Dr. Mark Deutsch, founder of Perimeter Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, was interviewed Monday about the increase in frequency of men undergoing cosmetic surgery. The plastic surgeon was interviewed following the release of gender statistics for patients that underwent plastic surgery in 2011 by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. According to Deutsch and the American Society for Plastic Surgeons, men’s plastic surgery has become significantly more common than it was in the 1990s.
Deutsch says that men’s plastic surgery is probably becoming more frequent because there is no longer a social stigma associated with it. “It used to be much less common than it is today,” said Deutsch. “It used to have a taboo attached to it, as if it was only something for women, but now many men are undergoing cosmetic procedures for a variety of reasons. We see a lot of executives that want to retain a polished appearance, as well as men motivated by a significant other.” Deutsch says that Botox and dermal fillers like Juvederm are common procedures that men ask for.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, men’s plastic surgery procedures have more than doubled in the last fifteen years, and in 2011, procedures for men accounted for 9 percent of all procedures performed. This totals to 1.2 million procedures, with the most popular procedures for men being liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, gynecomastia (the removal of excess breast tissue), and ear reshaping. Body sculpting is also a popular procedure for males.
Dr. Mark Deutsch is the founder Perimeter Plastic Surgery and a top plastic surgeon in Atlanta. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and performs a variety of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries.
