When guidelines such as those offered by the AAT are followed, thermal imaging results can be a valuable tool that assists physicians in clinical decision making for their patients.
GREENVILLE, SC (PRWEB) December 01, 2016
The American Academy of Thermology (AAT), which is the premiere organization in North America for the scientific development, healthcare training and clinical application of medical infrared imaging, has launched the world’s first online Atlas of Medical Thermology.
The Atlas, which is available on the AAT’s website at http://aathermology.org/atlas, features two searchable databases: a Normal Atlas of Medical Thermology, and an Abnormal Atlas of Medical Thermology.
The Normal Atlas of Medical Thermology is an open access Atlas that is intended to provide anyone interested in medical thermology with examples of normal thermal images. The Abnormal Atlas of Medical Thermology contains thermal images that have been collaborated with other medical studies from various disease states and conditions. Major categories include: Neuromusculoskeletal, Breast, Oral-Systemic, and Veterinary.
Both Atlases are peer-reviewed and all users can submit cases to either Atlas. However, only AAT Members may view the cases found within the Atlas of Abnormal Medical Thermology.
Commented Jeffrey J. Lefko, Executive Director of the AAT: “All humans glow, and at normal skin temperatures this glow appears in the infrared range at a wavelength of eight to fourteen micrometers, which can be detected by modern infrared band imagers. By observing the pattern and intensity of a person’s infrared glow, physiologic changes associated with disease can be detected. In addition, when guidelines such as those offered by the AAT are followed, thermal imaging results can be a valuable tool that assists physicians in clinical decision making for their patients.”
To facilitate knowledge sharing among all users (including non-members), the AAT is also in the process of developing a Thermology Social Media Site. More information including an official launch date will be posted to the AAT’s News Section in the near future
