AUSTIN, TEXAS (PRWEB) November 27, 2012
The Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office has issued a report stating that the 2011 Steiner Ranch fire was most likely started by electrical lines touching one another, sparking and igniting the grass below the lines.
This report has advanced the case of Austin personal injury attorney Brett A. Burlison of the Barry Law Group, who filed a lawsuit against Austin Energy, case number D-1-GN-12-003451 in Travis County Court, in the wrongful death of Travis County Constable Kevin Aigner. The lawsuit alleged that the fire started because Austin Energy’s negligence in maintaining the power lines.
“This report vindicates what we’ve been saying all along,” Burlison said. “Had Austin Energy kept the lines tight, they would have stayed away from one another and not caused the spark that started the Steiner Ranch fire.”
The Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office report echoes the preliminary report from the Travis County Sheriff's office, which was produced shortly after the fire. The preliminary report pointed to two power lines contacting one another as the cause of the fire, resulting in an arcing event that showered molten aluminum on the vegetation and brush below the lines. Typically, power lines are strung with enough tension on the line so that lines cannot touch.
