Building a new clean room in Austin is an example of Touch International being proactive to the ever-changing requirements and expectations of our customers and their designs.

Industry leading touch screen manufacturer, Touch International, announced today the capital expansion and improvement plan for its Austin, Texas factory clean room as part of the $10 million global expansion and technology development effort that was announced in April. The expansion will more than double the size of the company’s class 10,000 clean room which serves as the hub for prototype and specialty designs for the military, medical and aerospace markets.

The expansion is the first of several steps aimed at improving manufacturing automation and boosting the company’s high-mix low-volume touch screen production, while protecting the quality and reliability of its specialty displays. Construction is already underway and the ISO 9000:2008 certified, ITAR compliant manufacturer expects formal clean room qualification testing to be completed by the end of September.

“Building a new clean room in Austin is an example of Touch International being proactive to the ever-changing requirements and expectations of our customers and their designs,” explains David G. Weigers, Manager at Touch International. “Improving the facility will allow us to bring all of the critical assembly processes inside the clean room which will reduce scrap, improve yield and help us to accommodate increased production demands.”

The Austin clean room expansion comes just three months after the opening of the company’s new 50,000 ft² Shenzhen, China factory which features vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities for streamlined projected capacitive and resistive touch screen production.

“Expanding and improving the clean room in Austin brings more capacity in our design, development and value-add solutions for our specialty markets and products,” comments Michael Woolstrum, Touch International CEO. “Concurrently, increasing factory capabilities in China gives us a vertically integrated system, which will give us greater capacity for high volume product lines. Overall, Touch International remains poised to capitalize on world-wide touch screen market growth.”
