There is just so much noise on social networks these days, especially from businesses constantly promoting themselves. Virtually nobody pays attention, so most of it gets tuned out. You have to do something really clever if you want to get noticed.
Austin, TX (PRWEB) July 02, 2012
FindMyCompany.com, an Austin-based Search Engine Marketing Company, is upping the ante for an ongoing social media competition by offering a new iPad to the first person who guesses how many bananas are stacked on the ping-pong table in their Austin corporate office. No joke. Let the social madness begin!
The Banana Contest kicked off on June 26th, when FindMyCompany uploaded a picture featuring a massive heap of the yellow fruit to their Facebook page. They encourage participants to each leave one guess -- or two, for those who share the post -- in the comments section under the picture.
Responses are flying in, and they won't say whether or not anyone has correctly guessed the number. For complete rules and details regarding the contest, visit FindMyCompany’s official “Let’s Go Bananas for SEO” contest page, and follow the Facebook link to add your guess.
The idea to hold the contest was inspired by FindMyCompany’s ongoing participation in the Austin Business Journal’s bracket style “Social Madness” competition. The competition, which began on the 1st of June, pits local businesses in head-to-head matchups and determines a winner based on who has a more active social media following.
FindMyCompany beat out over 100 businesses to qualify for the tournament and then managed to win their first round matchup without too much self-promotion thanks to a sizable pre-existing base of loyal followers. They aren’t pulling punches, however, as round two of the competition commences and competition heats up.
“We want to win. I’ve always been a competitive person, so I challenged everyone in the office to come up with creative ways to get more activity on our Facebook page,” said Stathis Edel, CEO of FindMyCompany. “I think it was Paul who first mentioned a counting or guessing game, and Olga, one of our developers, who was eating a banana, and Heidi, she said we could donate fruit to the Austin Zoo, and so, just like that, there we were with this giant pile of bananas on our ping-pong table.”
Just in case anyone is trying to do the math and calculate exactly how many bananas each employee of FindMyCompany would end up eating in the next two or three days, or how many fly traps they would be purchasing (new contest?), rest assured, all but a few of the bananas were delivered personally by Heidi Buckner, Director of Operations with FindMyCompany, to help feed the hungry herbivores at the Austin Zoo & Animal Sanctuary.
Fun and games aside, FindMyCompany is also hoping to set an example that other businesses attempting to grab the attention of ADD social media devotees can follow. “There is just so much noise on social networks these days, especially from businesses constantly promoting themselves. Virtually nobody pays attention, so most of it gets tuned out. That’s why you have to do something really clever if you want to get noticed,” said Leslie Reeves, Social Media Manager with FindMyCompany.
The Banana Contest ends with the first correct entry, or on July 13th, and the Austin winner of Social Madness will be crowned on July 16th. Cheer on FindMyCompany by ‘liking’ their Facebook Page. Anyone who 'likes' the page has the option to enter the contest.
