El Paso car accident lawyer Michael J. Gopin cautions drivers and passengers to be careful in response to a serious accident that resulted in four injuries to children.

No parent ever wants to have to deal with an injury to a child. Unfortunately, accidents happen, often when we least expect them.

A two-car accident that resulted in injuries to four children in El Paso on March 10 serves as a reminder of just how dangerous car accidents can be, according to El Paso auto accident lawyer Michael J. Gopin of the Law Offices of Michael J. Gopin.

“Our hearts go out the families of the four children injured in Sunday’s two-car crash in El Paso,” said Gopin, a personal injury attorney in El Paso. “No parent ever wants to have to deal with an injury to a child. Unfortunately, accidents happen, often when we least expect them. That’s why we work so hard for families dealing with an injury to child. They already have enough on their mind. The last thing they need to be worrying about is whether their rights are being protected.”

The two-car accident occurred at around 8:45 p.m. on March 10 near the intersection of Lee and Pebble Hills boulevards, according to KFOX14 on March 11. According to the television station, four children were taken to a hospital from the scene of the accident. The news report added that one of the injured children was listed in serious condition.

“This accident is under investigation, so we don’t know what caused it,” Gopin said. “Accidents can happen from any number of reasons: speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and distracted driving – the list goes on and on. We’ve seen so many different kinds of accidents. We know what injury victims are going through, and we want to help them get their lives back on track as soon as possible.”

Gopin said he reminds all drivers to avoid dangerous behavior like texting while driving, drinking and driving or aggressive driving. “Serious auto accidents happen every day in Texas due to negligent drivers,” he said. “Many of these accidents would never have happened if people made the right choices.”

In 2011, a total of 211,006 people were injured in auto accidents statewide, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. That’s one injury every two minutes. That same year, there were 57,919 serious motor vehicle accidents resulting in 79,573 serious injuries. And nearly every three hours, someone dies in an auto accident in Texas. In 2011, motor vehicle accidents claimed the lives of 3,015 people.

“All it takes is one small mistake to cause a serious or even fatal injury,” Gopin said. “When drivers take their eyes off the road for even a second, they could suddenly find themselves involved in an accident. That’s why many states restrict the use of cellphones while driving. Texting while driving might seem harmless. But reading or sending a text while driving could cause an accident.”
