Educators tell us and the efficacy data confirms that when students learn with the Academy of READING and the Academy of MATH, they build a solid foundation on the path to academic success
Ottawa (PRWEB) February 10, 2009
AutoSkill International announced today that the Academy of READING® and the Academy of MATH® have been adopted by the Utah State Department of Education. Students throughout the Beehive State can now use these powerful intervention solutions to realize significant grade-level gains and close the achievement gap, improve results on high-stakes tests and dramatically improve retention and graduation rates.
The Utah State Department of Education selects curriculum materials that support its goal that all students have educational opportunities to meet their potential and achieve competency. The recently adopted AutoSkill intervention programs will particularly help the state's struggling students. In a recent study (Evergreen, Wis.), students showed gains in reading proficiency of two grade-level equivalents on the Cloze paragraph test and 192 Lexile scores, on average, after 14 hours of training with the Academy of READING. Gains were 1.4 times greater than in a comparison group of non-users.
"Educators tell us and the efficacy data confirms that when students learn with the Academy of READING and the Academy of MATH, they build a solid foundation on the path to academic success," said KC Lim, CEO, AutoSkill International. "We look forward to working with educators throughout Utah as they use our proven intervention solutions to close the achievement gap."
The Academy of READING was adopted as a Utah "Recommended Student Resource" for grades K-11, including English as a Second Language (ESL) and special education. Based on extensive research and proven in thousands of elementary, middle and high schools, the award-winning Academy of READING uses a patented methodology with an adaptive intervention engine, skill mastery based on automaticity and motivational principles to build fluency in the foundation skills of reading.
The Academy of READING offers two optional modules: Oral Reading Fluency, which helps students become active, fluent readers by strengthening neural pathways and oral-language skill connections, and the award-winning Response to Intervention (RtI) package for implementing the framework for improving instruction and accelerating academic achievement for struggling students.
Adopted as a Utah "Recommended Student Resource" for grades K-8, including special education and ESL, the Academy of MATH is a reader-friendly math intervention software solution that helps at-risk elementary, middle and high school students build a strong foundation in mathematics. Using the same powerful adaptive intervention engine as the Academy of READING, the Academy of MATH builds math skills for beginner through algebra-ready students in 10 skill areas that align to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards.
Utah schools with large Spanish-speaking populations can add SpanishTutor™ to the Academy of READING and the Academy of MATH. An optional instructional module that enables students to jumpstart the development of fluency in foundation reading and math skills by providing tutorials, assistance and motivational elements in Spanish, SpanishTutor helps accelerate learning gains for students who are struggling to learn.
The Academy of READING and the Academy of MATH are currently used in more than 5,000 sites in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
