The AvantLink Affiliate network announced recently the release of their Video Ad Tool (VAT), the first network-integrated tool of its kind available in the Affiliate space. Until now, merchants and Affiliates had to work with third party providers for video marketing solutions. This is yet another example of AvantLink's progressive technology agenda, and commitment to providing cutting-edge marketing tools and data for Affiliate professionals.

As with all AvantLink Affiliate tools, the Video Ad Tool is a free value add service for both merchants and Affiliates. Merchants simply upload marketing videos (currently we support .avi, .flv, mov, or .mpg formats) through their program/campaign management interface, and AvantLink distributes the creative to Affiliates through a "Video" tagged ad type. Videos are served through a JavaScript that's custom coded to embed tracking links for specific marketers.

"Our Video Ad Tool was first released last week at Affiliate Summit 2008 in Las Vegas," says Gary Marcoccia, Marketing Director for AvantLink. "One of the most talked about sessions there focused on video marketing through the Affiliate channel. Examples were cited of a 400% increase in conversion on existing sales pages once a targeted, short video ad campaign was included." Merchants and Affiliates responded promptly by embracing this new ad type. "The day after the release we had one merchant post 22 product level video campaigns, and a very encouraging response from Affiliates," Marcoccia adds.

Video Ad Tool Summary:

  • Merchants upload their marketing videos in .avi, .flv, .mov, or .mpg formats
  • The videos are converted to Flash format and hosted on AvantLink's servers
  • Merchants may specify a banner (or their logo) link to display prior to video playing
  • All standard ad attributes apply to video ads just as with any other campaigns
  • Affiliates select video ads for web pages and embed them with a line of JavaScript
  • Clicking a video ad while it's playing will send the user to the ad destination URL
  • On click an Affiliate-specific tracking ID will be set to credit sales accordingly
  • Once a video ad finishes it will again display the merchant logo or banner link
