With Recorded References, a Reference Check is Just a Click Away

As a parent, it is so important to feel a level of comfort with someone that you are inviting into your home. This feature makes the process of reviewing babysitter references and caregiver references much more efficient for families in search of care, but it still emphasizes the importance of fully evaluating a caregiver.

Care.com, the premier source of trustworthy family care options, today announced a new enhancement for checking references of babysitters, nannies, senior care providers, pet sitters and more. Care.com has launched recorded references, a feature that enables families in search of care to check references more efficiently, by listening to them directly through the Care.com website.

The new enhancement enables caregivers to submit former employers and other references, who then participate in voluntary recorded phone interviews. The interview addresses the experience and capabilities of the caregiver—allowing families seeking care to then listen to the recorded reference as part of the Care.com caregiver’s profile. Through streaming audio, parents now have the ability to review references of babysitters, nannies, and other caregivers directly through Care.com.

The new feature is a welcome addition for the thousands of families already using Care.com to find child care, tutoring, senior care, pet care and housekeeping. Reference checks are a critical step often overlooked by families when hiring a new caregiver. Reviewing babysitter references and caregiver references enables the person seeking care to properly evaluate how the caregiver thinks, acts, and performs on the job.

“We are excited about the addition of recorded references to Care.com,” said Sheila Lirio Marcelo, Founder and CEO of Care.com. “As a parent, it is so important to feel a level of comfort with someone that you are inviting into your home. This feature makes the process of reviewing babysitter references and caregiver references much more efficient for families in search of care, but it still emphasizes the importance of fully evaluating a caregiver.”

In addition to recorded references, Care.com provides additional tools to give families added peace of mind when evaluating caregivers. All profiles are pre-screened prior to being listed on Care.com, and members have the ability to post ratings for caregivers that they have had experience with. Additionally, premium members have access to unlimited free background checks.

Launched in May 2007, Care.com connects people seeking qualified caregivers with a national network of trusted providers. With local search options currently available in more than 40 major cities across the United States, Care.com's online marketplace provides a network of care providers in areas including child care, tutoring, senior care, pet care and housekeeping.
