Angkor Wat itself is one of the world’s most magical structures, and combines a great selection of boutique hotels and some unique touring options, which make it an ideal country in Asia for couples to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip

The customizable two night / three day Angkor For Two tour begins with a greeting at the airport by personal guide and hassle-free transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon of the first day, guests will be taken by moto-dop (a trailer pulled by motorbike) to the climb aboard a tethered helium balloon which rises to 120 meters to provide brilliant bird’s-eye views of the beautiful temples below.

Once seen from the unique sky-high perspective, travelers will then descend and visit the mystical and magical Angkor Wat by foot. After absorbing the majesty of the ancient ruins, travelers are invited to Tonle Sap Lake for a romantic cruise in a handcrafted riverboat to watch the sunset. Truly a trip tailor-made for lovers, guests can enjoy a bottle of champagne as they savor the unique moment.

The following day, guests will set off to explore Angkor by bike. Led by a personal tour guide, the leisurely trip takes travelers to the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire; the ancient city of Angkor Thom, a perfectly square ancient walled city. Bayon Temple, with 54 towers to represent the 54 provinces of the Khmer Empire, sits precisely in the center of the city and is a masterpiece of Khmer craftsmanship. Guests can then stroll through the grounds of the former Royal Palace to discover the small, hidden temples that are rarely visited.

From there, travelers will ride on to Ta Phrom, and iconic temple which has been remarkably entwined with stunning tree roots that have grown to become part of the temple itself. After marveling at the wonderful adaption of nature combined with this unique stone structure, guests can relax in a tranquil area next to Srah Srang, the old bathing pond of Khmer Royalty, where they will have the chance to kick-back, relax and enjoy a dreamy afternoon picnic under the protection and shade of the elegant eucalyptus trees like the kings and queens of old. The impeccable day becomes even more perfect with a massage at the hotel spa to provide a heavenly way to cap the day.

The third day of the tour begins with a morning visit to a pagoda where Buddhist monks will give the loving couples who take the tour a private blessing for good health and safe travels. The remainder of the day is then spent at the lovers’ whim until the stress free transfer back to the airport.

“I believe Cambodia is an underrated Honeymoon destination and many couples don’t realize how romantic it is to visit,” said Backyard Travel’s General Manager Maeve Nolan. “Angkor Wat itself is one of the world’s most magical structures, and combines a great selection of boutique hotels and some unique touring options, which make it an ideal country in Asia for couples to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip.”
