Taking place from the 1- 5 December in Laos, the Luang Prabang Film Festival showcases the best of Southeast Asian cinema. Featuring titles selected by the Motion Picture Ambassadors (MPAs), the line-up reflects the best of the region's films from the last five years, with a film to represent each country in Southeast Asia.
The Luang Prabang Film Festival presents a unique opportunity for travelers to experience contemporary culture in Lao's historic former capital. The city has no cinema theater, so screenings will take place in indoor and outdoor venues across the city, juxtaposing ancient structures against modern film, and allowing travelers to enjoy two very distinct aspects of the region simultaneously.
To promote appreciation of the arts and meet demand for specialized travel within Laos, Backyard Travel has created a special three-day tour of Luang Prabang that includes sightseeing in the former royal capital. The package, at a special rate of US345 per person twin share, includes accommodation in Luang Prabang at the luxurious ad stylish Villa Maly, access to the film festival and a half-day river cruise on the Mekong. Guests can also opt to attend the VIP opening ceremony of the event - the proceeds of which go directly back to the Luang Prabang Film Festival organizers in ongoing support of the arts in Southeast Asia. VIP ticket-holders have access to screenings, workshops and all scheduled festival projects.
Outside of screening times, the tour includes visits to major Luang Prabang sights, including the Pak Ou Caves on the Mekong River, the National Museum and the beautiful Wat Mai temple. The tour also includes free time for travelers to while away at their leisure, whether that means cycling around the ancient city or heading to the weaving village of Xang Khong.
Maeve Nolan, Backyard Travel’s Product and Operations Director says: “This special tour offers insight into the emerging film industry in Southeast Asia, featuring open-air screenings in incredible locations, open just once a year specifically for this event. with the added option of attending the exclusive opening ceremony. The festival coincides with Laos’ dry cool season, making it prime time to visit Luang Prabang.”
