The guided China tour allows the opportunity to soak in the culture of Shanghai including visits to historical areas such as the French Concession contrasting with the uber-modern region of Pudong.

Shanghai, China

Our city break tour, provides the opportunity to experience the best bits of the city accompanied by a local expert guide, ensuring insider experiences that shouldn’t be missed.

The bespoke four-day, three-night tour of China’s second city begins with a ride on the futuristic Maglev, the world’s fastest commuter train, which arrives in the Pudong district an area that has undergone dramatic change in the last 20 years going from marshland inhabited only by farmers and ox to skyscrapers covered in neon.

Travelers can then experience The Bund, a pedestrianized shopping zone which is lined by some of Puxi’s historical buildings, before exploring Nanjing Road, one of the world’s busiest shopping areas which highlights the fusion of old and new, foreign and domestic which represents modern China.

The tailored Shanghai tour also includes various insider experiences including seeing the futuristic city from a less modern perspective with guided tours by local Backyard Travel guides who will lead the way around the French Concession, People’s Square and Xintiandi, Tianzifang and the marvelous Yu Gardens. While in the gardens, travelers will have the chance to take tea in the Huxinting Teahouse and meet a Chinese gardener who will explain the art of penjing, better known as bonsai.

While in China’s second city, travelers can also take a guided visit to M50, located at 50 Moganshan St, now renowned as one of the leading centers for contemporary art in China, on par with the famous 798 District of Beijing.

“Shanghai is one of the world’s most futuristic and enigmatic cities and our tailored city tour takes in all the highlights of China’s second city,” said Backyard Travel’s General Manager Maeve Nolan. “Travelers on this China tour will have the chance to see the best of the old world as well as the new, modern Shanghai which can sometimes be daunting. Our city break tour however, provides the opportunity to experience the best bits of the city accompanied by a local expert guide, ensuring insider experiences that shouldn’t be missed.”
